Overbury Farms and Newsround

Last night Overbury Farms Manager Jake Freestone appeared on BBC1 Newsround.

Newsround is a BBC children's news programme, which has run continuously since 4 April 1972, and was one of the world's first television news magazines aimed specifically at 6 to 16 year olds.

The news team ventured out of London to visit Overbury Farms last week to report on the growing use of technology within the Farming Industry. The report focuses on the technical developments in the industry, and the importance of this in encouraging young people into the business.

Here at Overbury we have a number of advanced systems in place, including our own weather station. This allows us to measure the rainfall, soil temperature, sunlight strength, wind speed and direction, humidity and leaf wetness. Jake and his team also use a variety of Apps through Smartphones - for example measuring the green area index (number of leaves and stems), which help with the planning of nitrogen application on our crops.
