Farm Sunday

EVENTS

THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO SUPPORTED OUR OPEN FARM SUNDAY - Sunday 13th June 2010

We very much enjoyed our Open Farm Sunday 2010. The young Phillips family showed off their ducks & chickens and we returned to our free bookable trailer rides.  Every farm involved in Open Farm Sunday puts on a unique and individual event. You get a real insight into how food is produced and the nature that thrives in the hedgerows. You'll find a whole host of activities across the country, from tractor and trailer rides to pig-racing, a gentle farm walk and cup of tea to a full-on vegetable olympics! We are only one of many farms opening our gates so if you have enjoyed visiting Overbury why not find out from the Open Farm Sunday Website what the other farms you are able to visit are doing.

Regular Events at Overbury

At around Easter we host an annual Lambing Day where the public can see our lambing flock. Since Open Farm Sunday began we have opened the farm (which is on Sunday 13th June 2010) to open for our fifth year.
Every other year we hold a “Schools Day” in conjunction with the Countryside Foundation for Education – usually in June or July. This will next happen in 2011.

Past Events

Lambing Day - 11th April 2010 saw a record turn out of over 650 people - we were delighted to see so many of you and thank you to everyone for being patient whilst we called in a second tractor, trailer and driver in order to cope with getting everyone up to Park Farm to see the lambing.  The sun shone and although a little bit nippy a great day was had by all. See what happened by going to the Chairman of Wychavon's blog.  Andy Dyke & his family took lots if photographs while  enjoying their day.

2009 Events
"Slow Food" Lamb Tasting at Overbury - A comparison of five different sheep meats including rare breed & pea fed lamb and mutton was held on Monday 19th October at the village hall.  This event provided an opportunity to explore the flavours and tastes of different styles of sheep meat in a blind tasting.  Hosted by Overbury Farms, who's manager Jake Freestone explained how their flocks are managed to produce meats for different markets.  Worcestershire Slow Food's Terra Madre chef David McCaw and Overbury's chef Billy prepared the tasting and gave ideas on dishes for the lamb and mutton. Click here for more information on the Worcestershire Slow Food Group.

Lambing Day – Easter Saturday
Probably a record turnout – with glorious sunshine we had hundreds of happy customers.  The ewes performed as well with almost every single visitor witnessing the birth of a lamb.  The new format allowing visitors to stay at Park Farm for as long as they wished meant that it really was a great day out for all the family.

7th June 2009 at Conderton
Open Farm Sunday went well, thank you to everyone who braved the early rain storms and donned their wellies!  We were treated to falconry and ferret racing by Bob Edwards and his team (www.falconry-days.com), a hog roast from Meadow’s Farm Shop (www.meadowshomefarm.co.uk), tractor and trailer rides, James & Harry with their “chucks an ducks”, strawberries & cream and cakes from the Friends of Overbury First School and much more.  To see photos and our farm manager Jake Freestone talking about the day visit  http://www.nfuonline.com/x39594.xml

2008 Events
Lambing day went well despite the rain…fingers crossed for some sunshine next year!  Open Farm Sunday was blessed with better weather and our tractor rides were full to the brim.  Children and adults alike enjoyed the “hands-free” tractor demonstrated by Chris Tallis Farm Machinery and a fair few ice-creams were devoured too.

2007 Events
Our lambing day took place on Sunday 15th April. Over 350 people enjoyed a tractor ride up the hill to Park Farm to see our lambing sheds in action.
Feedback included:  "Excellent day out, especially for children!! - very informative and "hands on", "lovely day, my 3 yr old son really enjoyed himself" "The whole day was lovely, the highlight being holding the lambs!  They were very cute, we all liked Pickle the dog"
We have also had a Countryside Foundation for Education day for over 200 schools children & their teachers as well as opening for Open Farm Sunday.

2006 Events
We celebrated British Food Fortnight at the Vale of Evesham Food Festival and local schools took part in a food map competition.  Our lamb was sold on the LEAF stand at the Royal Show and the Overbury Street Market on Sat 8th July.
We were involved in several open days including Farm Sunday. Our village schools had several visits seeing hay making, lambing and shearing.
There were harvest visits for local children. Our Oat harvest was filmed. To watch it follow the Country Channel links (below & also with the logo) followed by "Watch now" and navigate the scroll bar to "Getting your oats" www.countrychannel.tv
We enjoy taking local schools to see a variety of things over the farming year.
